MP Robert Jackson has called for greater help for holidaymakers who become victims of violence overseas.

The calls follow concerns that British tourists assaulted abroad are left in a "legal vacuum".

He said many got a raw deal both overseas and when they return, as they are unable to claim criminal injuries compensation.

In a letter to the Minister of State at the Home Office, Charles Clarke, Wantage MP Mr Jackson spelt out his concerns.

In his reply, Mr Clarke said other countries should be encouraged to improve arrangements for compensating blameless victims of crime.
