The Volkswagen Polo was crowned Britain's best used car in the first annual car industry Oscars. An independent panel of trade experts voted the car as overall winner in the Used Car of the Year Awards after it had already been named Best Supermini.
A team of used car market and technical experts from CAP Motor Research looked at every car available in the UK and made awards in 15 sectors as well as the overall winner.
Other cars to win awards included the Ford Ka, named as Best City Car, while the Volkswagen Golf won Best Lower Medium Car, Vauxhall Vectra won Best Upper Medium (Petrol) Car and the Peugeot 406 won the Best Upper Medium (diesel) Car.
The BMW 3 Series scooped the Best Small Prestige Car, the Mercedes E Class won the Best Medium Prestige Car and the Best Large Prestige Car went to the BMW 7 Series.
The Best Newcomer award went to the Peugeot 206, the Best Serious Sports Car went to the Porsche 911 and the Best MPV went to the Renault Espace.
CAP Motor Research spokesman Daren Wiseman said: The Polo is a strong used car, it is economical, has excellent build quality and a strong warranty."
