Bus companies have been told to cut the speed of their vehicles in Oxford.
Managers of the two city's main operators met county council officers to discuss a range of measures to improve safety.
The meeting was partly prompted by the death of 45-year-old cyclist Isobell Beckett, of Hillsborough Road, Rose Hill, in High Street on August 5 following a collision with a bus.
A series of short-term measures have been agreed, including:
Providing more training for bus drivers to make them more aware of cyclists
Putting notices in bus drivers' cabs reminding them to look out for cyclists and pedestrians
Looking at ways of emphasising a voluntary 20mph agreement on streets in the city centre. The situation will be reviewed in three months.
David Young, the county council's director of environmental services, said: "I have made it clear to the major bus companies that they must ensure their buses are driven at a safe speed and with due care for other road users at all times."
Inglis Lyon, managing director of Stagecoach Oxford, said: "We are fully committed to providing high standards of driving and customer care and we welcome the undertaking by Oxfordshire County Council to examine how they can provide more segregation between different road users."
No-one from Oxford Bus Company was available for comment.
