Linchpin and driving force behind Tailgunner who make their debut visit to Oxford on Monday is Mark Coyle, who made his name as the producer for Oasis's first and arguably best album, Definitely Maybe, writes Joe Hawkins.
Much has been made of the fact that Noel Gallagher played drums on the band's forthcoming album. But Tailgunner isn't a side project for Noel, he doesn't feature in the live line-up.
Noel and Coyle first met up when they both roadied for Inspiral Carpets, and have remained friends ever since.
The eponymously titled Tailgunner album was originally set for release on Creation Records, although the demise of the label led to something of a delay.
With an album complete and ready to roll, but minus a label to release it, Coyle headed back to the north-west, and secured a deal with the Bolton-based No label. First taste of Mark's brainchild was the limited edition 12-inch featuring the country-tinged Coming Back Home as the lead track.
The album has hints of Led Zepplin, Neil Young and Nick Drake with a huge slice of sleazy rock 'n' roll at its heart, conjuring up images of Link Wray.
Tailgunner top the bill at the Kooler at the Bullingdon, on Cowley Road on Monday.
It has all the hallmarks of a gig that will be talked about for some time to come.
Advance tickets are still available from the Bullingdon, tel 01865 244516.
