Residents are fighting proposals to build 19 flats near a busy roundabout.
A 364-name petition has been presented to Oxford City Council opposing plans to redevelop Roundabout House, in Banbury Road, Oxford.
Cala Homes hopes to demolish the existing building, near the Cutteslowe roundabout, and erect a three-storey block of 18 two-bedroom flats and another block of five garages with a two-bedroom flat over it. Parking would be provided for 14 cars.
Residents are worried about extra traffic from the access road near the roundabout, the effect on the character of the neighbourhood, destruction of mature trees, more pollution, noise from traffic and too few parking spaces.
Dr David Shotton, of Kirk Close, Oxford, said: "There is very strong and almost universal opposition to the proposed development."
He demanded the council place preservation orders on the trees.
Dr Shotton said: "More traffic in Sunderland Avenue is also very likely to endanger children, cyclists and pedestrians."
A council planning spokesman said the proposal was still in its very early stages. No date has been fixed for councillors to hear the application.
