Oxfordshire's Tim Henman slumped to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Thomas Enqvist in the semi-final of the Swiss Indoor tournament in Basle.
Henman, who had been chasing back-to-back tour victories after winning the CA Trophy in Vienna a fortnight ago, was hammered 6-1, 6-3 by his Swedish opponent.
Enqvist, seeded second, made short work of the Briton, who had won this tournament in 1998 and reached the final last year.
Struggling with his service game throughout the match, Henman only held his serve for the first time when he was down 2-0 in the second set.
It was the Swede's third consecutive win over Henman, who said: He's tough once he gets ahead. Once you give the guy a break in the second set the battle is pretty much over.
Enqvist went on to beat 19-year-old Roger Federer 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 1-6, 6-1 in the final.
