Loughborough Univ 7, Oxford Universty 13
Oxford's sixth successive victory at a wet and windy Loughborough proved good Varsity Match preparation for Jamie Weston's side as they were made to compete in every department to secure a win.
Loughborough tackled everything that moved and at times possession of the ball became a liability.
After 20 minutes, a series of mauls on the Loughborough line ended with Dark Blues' skipper Weston sneaking over for a try.
In the absence of the injured Seb FitzGerald, fly half Nick Edwards increased the lead with a penalty goal just before half-time.
Loughborough played with the elements in the second half and immediately secured a try and conversion.
In front of Cambridge coach Tony Rodgers, Oxford put together a period of sustained pressure and this resulted in a try for man-of-the- match Luke Sherriff.
Some astute kick-and- chase rugby, combining Weston with wingers Hopcroft and Charlie Starmer-Smith, put Loughborough on the back foot and saw Oxford finish the stronger of the two sides.
**Oxford Univ: Marsh (Cook), Hopcroft, Jennings, Adlen, Starmer-Smith, N Edwards, Weston (capt), Jeffreys, Julyan, Hughes, Miall, Russell, Sherriff, Bolger, Hendriksz.
