Adviser Joe Kinnear and Oxford United chairman Firoz Kassam are still in discussions about the best way forward for both parties.
Kassam met with the ex-Wimbledon manager, who has been acting as a consultant for the club for the past six days, yesterday, but because of transport difficulties caused by Sunday's storms, the meeting was delayed by several hours.
Kassam is thought to be keen for Kinnear to succeed Denis Smith as manager of bottom-of-the-table United, but Kinnear was not prepared to commit himself last week.
Kassam said: "The talks went very well, but I have nothing to say at the moment.
"We are still in discussions, and I hope to make an announcement later in the week."
