Thame United have been ordered by an FA tribunal to pay an initial sum of 850 to local rivals Oxford City as compensation for the registration of wing back Chris Potter, writes Russell Smith.

City will also receive a further 250 after Potter has made 20 appearances for Thame and a further 250 when he reaches the 40-mark.

In addition, the Lancaster Gate tribunal ruled that City should collect 20 per cent of any sell-on fee Thame receive for Potter, minus the amount they have already been paid.

All the sums are subject to VAT and the two clubs each pick up a 200 bill for the tribunal.

On the face of it, City would seem to have come out the better as they were seeking a four-figure sum plus 'extras' should Potter's career blossom, while Thame's final offer was 250 having orginally offered 50.

But Thame joint manager Andy Sinnott was satisifed with the verdict.

He said: "We realise that our initial offer was a little bit cheeky, but we are not unhappy with what we have been asked to pay.

"We have a very good player for 850 plus a few add ons."

City chairman Mick Woodley said: "I think bearing in mind Thame's final offer was only 250, the outcome speaks for itself."
