Fans of folk singer Ralph McTell were left disappointed when he became stranded on the M4.
The legendary singer-songwriter had been due to attend a book-signing session in Wantage, before a concert at the town's Civic Hall.
But admirers hoping to meet the musician at WH Smith left the store empty-handed when he failed to show up.
Only a handful of shoppers were there to greet him when he eventually arrived - more than an hour-and-a-half late - after getting stuck in a traffic jam on the M4.
Mr McTell had arranged the afternoon session to promote his new autobiography, Angel Laughter.
But there was little sign of merriment among fans left kicking their heels at the Wallingford Street store.
Manager Amanda Dudman said: "There were quite a few disappointed people around. He was only here for an hour and a lot of people had already given up by the time he got here.
"However, he still signed a few books and we got him to sign blank pieces of paper for people who had missed him."
