David Kemp is Oxford United's new manager, write Jon Murray and Mark Edwards. Chairman Firoz Kassam announced at a press conference today that the former Wimbledon assistant manager will take charge of team affairs at the Manor and will be assisted by Alan McLeary.
Kemp, the former Crystal Palace and Plymouth striker, was recommended by Joe Kinnear, who has been at the Manor in an advisory capacity.
He was previously assistant boss to Kinnear at Wimbledon.
McLeary was a former joint-manager at Millwall before getting the boot earlier this season.
Contrary to reports on local radio station Fox FM, the 52-year-old Kinnear will not become new manager but instead has agreed to become United's full-time director of football.
He was the driving force behind Wimbledon's long stint in the Premier League, and it is no coincidence that when he left following a minor heart attack, the Dons were relegated.
The announcement casts doubts over the futures of previous managers Denis Smith and Mickey Lewis.
Mike Ford, who has been caretaker manager, may revert back to his role as youth team coach.
