Things tend to go in circles. Look at our once proud local footie team for example. They are languishing at the foot of the Second Division, while in contrast Thames Valley neighbours Reading are riding high at the top.

Then there's Oxford's music scene, which continues to bring new and exciting bands to the fore. But where once you couldn't venture out on the Cowley Road without stumbling over ponytail-sporting A&R types, these days they seem to limit their outside-of-London forays to places like, well, Reading.

The Cooper Temple Clause have just been snapped up by major label RCA. The Reading-based six-piece all in their late teens or early 20s on the strength of a CDR being circulated, entitled Let's Kill Music, is causing a tidal wave of enthusiastic responses.

Currently the Cooper Temple Clause are on their first UK tour, which has seen them earn an abundance of rave reviews for their innovative approach to live music. Blending swirling, bleeping keyboard and synths with massive, epic guitar riffs, Ben Gautry's vocal style adds to The Verve comparisons.

Although their first single with RCA won't see light of day until early next year, there's a chance to catch one of the bands tipped for stardom in the near future, when they drop in on The Kooler at The Bullingdon tonight. The Cooper Temple Clause head a four-band line-up.

For anyone with a taste for great songs, huge riffs and guitar-driven pop, it's an unmissable combination. With the added bonus of being able to brag 'I saw 'em before they were famous' to your sad mates who stop at home.
