How much should anglers pay for a rod licence is a question being put to the nation's anglers by the Environment Agency.

The agency will shortly sit down to plan the price structure for the 2001 season. In the meantime, they are calling on anglers to tell them if they think they are paying too much or too little for their sport.

The move comes after revelations of a disturbing 16 per cent fall in sales compared to last season when more than a million were purchased.

The EA believes the drop could be due to several factors, including the actual price of the permits.

The agency are considering increasing a full licence to 20, with concessionaries up 50 per cent to 10 and the junior permit slashed from 10 to 5.
