Wolvercote's 18-year-old giant Paul Joyce made a successful leap into the senior ranks with a unanimous points victory in his club's first show of the season at the Exeter Hall Kidlington.

In front of his huge number of fans in the 250-strong audience, the 22-stone reigning junior ABA super heavyweight champion overcame Mark Granger, the senior ABA quarter-finalist from Woking.

Joyce had Granger in trouble in rounds two and three with his three-punch combination.

His cousin, 18-year-old John Joyce, a junior ABA finalist, gained a unanimous points verdict over John King, of Bracknell, and was adjudged the best boxer of the night.

Wolvercote's Michael O'Leary had three good rounds, against a spoiling Terry Jones ,of Droitwich, at welterweight, also winning a unanimous decision.
