Police investigating the disappearance of a teenager were today still questioning her former boyfriend after a young woman's body was discovered, writes Nigel Hanson.
Detectives looking for 19-year-old Ziggy Fisher were waiting for post-mortem examination results following the discovery of the body in Hithercroft Road, Wallingford, yesterday (Thurs).
The discovery follows a nationwide hunt for teenager Miss Fisher, who disappeared from her home in Bridgwater, Somerset, on Monday.
Miss Fisher's former boyfriend, David Weller, 34, also disappeared but went to police on Wednesday.
The couple had lived together but care assistant Miss Fisher had recently moved back to live with her mother.
She has not been seen since she failed to return home from her work at a local nursing home on Monday afternoon after a colleague had given her a lift. Police say she was still wearing her uniform.
After disc jockey Mr Weller turned up in Gloucestershire, detectives issued an urgent appeal for anyone who had seen Miss Fisher to contact them.
Avon and Somerset police said Mr Weller had phoned his brother in a distressed state.
A police spokesman said last night: Officers will be applying to magistrates for permission to detain him further.
Officers from Avon and Somerset police joined Thames Valley officers examining the scene where the body was found. Hithercroft Road was sealed off at both ends with bollards.
