Infants as young as five are getting a taste of the power of voting.
Youngsters at Kingham Primary School, in Kingham, near Chipping Norton, have been chosen to help elect this year's national children's book prizewinner.
The 29 boys and girls in Year One won the right to be among the judges after submitting colourful posters to the competition organisers, Nestle Smarties.
Teacher Julie Rutter said they have three weeks to read the three short-listed children's books and will be delivering their verdict in a secret vote.
The books are John Burningham's Husherbye, Bob Graham's Max and Satoshi Kitamura's Me and My Cat.
The Kingham youngsters are among children from 50 selected primary schools across the country to take part in the judging. Another Oxfordshire group of pupils to take part is at Wantage CE Infants' School.
Ms Rutter said: "They have really enjoyed the books, reading them in class and taking them home as well, to share with their parents."
They also have a chance to be at the VIP awards ceremony held at The Rainforest Cafe in Piccadilly, London, on November 29.
