A man collapsed and died after being involved in a pub row.

Ernest Berry, 57, had an argument with another man in the White Horse pub in Churchill Road, Bicester, at 6pm on Saturday night.

The two men left the pub and continued to argue outside. Mr Berry, of Longlands, Stratton Audley, near Bicester, then collapsed.

Paramedics tried to revive him but he was dead when he arrived at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

A post-mortem examination was carried out over the weekend but was inconclusive. More tests will now be carried out.

Mr Berry, who was married with four children, was a warehouseman at Pro-Drive, the Banbury rally car makers.

Detectives have set up an incident room at Banbury police station and are appealing for witnesses.

Supt David Buckenham, who is leading the investigation, said: "There would have been a number of people around at the time - we are sure they would have witnessed things both inside and outside the pub. There may also have been a party of people waiting nearby for a coach who may have seen something.

"We need people who know anything about this to contact us so we can piece together what happened."

The incident room number is 01865 266000.

People living nearby were stunned by the death.

John Wilton, who lives near the pub, said: "Most of us were at a fireworks party and knew nothing of it at the time. We only heard later. It is a shocking thing to have happened."

Richard and Gill Horner, who run the pub, were said to be shocked. They were not available for comment.
