A hat-trick from sweeper Ross Morgan, all three from penalty corners, helped Abingdon to a 5-0 win over Sonning in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Area Division 1.

The comprehensive victory moves them up to second place.

Abingdon opened the scoring midway through the first half through Morgan's strike.

In the second half, Abingdon turned up the heat, going 2-0 ahead when Neil Spencer flicked the ball high into the net from five yards.

Morgan then scored his second, again from a penalty corner, and Abingdon's fourth came from a move starting deep inside their own half which Charlie Fraser finished with a first-time strike from 12 yards.

Morgan completed his hat-trick with an identical move that produced his second goal.

Bicester produced an inspired second-half display to thrash Bracknell 6-1 for their biggest win of the season.

A goal by Wayne Dobbins gave Bicester a slender leader at the break, but it was a different story afterwards as Bicester added goals from Paul Armstrong, Martyn Turbayne, Matt Marsh (penalty) and finally a brace from Ian Oak. City of Oxford went down again but made Hendon work hard for their 2-0 home victory.

Division 2 leaders Wallingford crashed to their heaviest defeat for several seasons, going down 7-1 away to a revitalised Slough team.

Slough, who are looking to regain their status as a top National League Division 1 in the 1990s, were simply too hot to handle.

The home team led 2-0 at half-time, with Danny Richardson and Paul Shipton working hard to contain the Slough midfield players.

After the break, Slough turned up the heat to add four further goals as Wallingford tired, John Rees scoring a consolation for Wallingford.

Witney were outgunned 8-0 at home to Old Merchant Taylors, with Mike Godwin missing a penalty flick to cap off a poor day.

Rover Oxford remain unbeaten in Division 2 after recording their third draw of the season, in a goalless game away to Aylesbury.

While the Rover forwards failed to convert their dominance into goals, keeper Chris Slatter again made vital saves to prevent the home side stealing a win.
