Since bursting on to Broadway in 1972, the musical Grease has entertained millions not least through the memorable film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, writes Chris Gray.

Set in the 1950s, it is a musical love story bursting with denim, leather, fast cars, slick hairstyles and raging teenage hormones.

It's the show that gave us songs like You're The One That I Want, Sandy and Grease is the Word.

Grease comes to the Apollo Theatre from tonight and will have audiences rocking in the aisles there right up until November 18.

Steven Houghton (from the popular TV series London's Burning) takes on the role of the hip-shaking, cocky Danny Zuko, a part that has been played in the past by Paul Nicholas, Craig Mclachlan, Luke Goss and Shane Richie

Irene Warren plays the 'real square' beauty, Sandy Dumbrowski.

Get ready to rock!
