An Oxfordshire garden centre is hoping that freak tornadoes do not strike twice.
Five years after the last one struck, causing serious structural damage at Yarnton Nurseries, near Oxford, the final stage of renovation has been completed, at a cost of over 100,000. The freak tornado, known as a "dust devil," ripped supporting metal posts from their concrete beds while the Sandy Lane centre was open during a hot summer afternoon.
Manager Lesley Booth said: "We've been told that the dust devil is a pretty rare and extraordinary phenomenon and the chances of it happening here again are very remote.
"With all this stormy weather we've been having lately, it'd better not, just as we've celebrated our brand new roof."
Although the damage caused by the mini-tornado caused severe damage, customers in the centre at the time were luckily left with just minor cuts and bruises.
