The mother and son injured during Monday's robbery at Benson Post Office are recovering with relatives.

Post mistress Cindy Olley, 56, was hit on the head with a crowbar during the armed raid as she intervened to protect her 37-year-old son, Darren Olley.

They were released from the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in the early hours of Tuesday after receiving treatment. Police have released further details of the robbery. Three men drew up outside the post office in Benson High Street in a white Ford Escort, registration no. G743 KVF, shortly after 3.30pm.

Police say the robbers were in their early 20s, about 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall, with slim build.

The white Ford Escort was stolen from Wallingford's St Albans car park between 2.40pm and 3.30pm that day and was later found abandoned in Littleworth Road, Benson. It was being dried out so that forensic tests could be done yesterday.

Det Insp David McCorkell said there were a number of leads and about ten witnesses to interview, including a man who was being served at the time of the raid.
