The Headington Business Association is holding a Christmas Sunday Fun Day to raise funds to help the local business community, writes Sarah Parker.

In the past, the event has raised cash to reinstall the London Road lay-by and provided extra seating in the shopping area.

Jill Cummings, from the association, said: "The local shopping area will only survive and flourish by obtaining the goodwill and patronage of its community. The business community is endeavouring to do its best. We hope, with the help of Brookes University to have the subway painted shortly, and we have worked with Thames Valley Police and introduced a pager system within the local shops to aid better security.

"We have many on-going ventures that will hopefully give Headington a much needed higher profile."

For the fun day on Sunday, December 3, Headington central shopping area will have its first-ever Christmas tree and light display and the day will also include carol singing .
