High winds and pouring rain forced a village to postpone its annual bonfire and fireworks display.
Despite being billed as going on "whatever the weather", the organisers at Launton thought it prudent to re-arrange the event for next Saturday.
Rob Cornford, chairman of the Launton-Gavray Twinning Association, said: "We spoke to the Met Office, and they said the wind would be too strong to send rockets up so we decided to postpone the event. When I went on to the field at Manor Farm at the start time, it was very windy and raining. I am glad we agreed not to go ahead."
It was the first time in four years that the display has been postponed.
**Bicester Round Table's bonfire and firework night went ahead on the Saturday. Tablers expect to have raised about 10,000 from the event for their charitable funds.
