Tom Upham and Michael Smith are feeling a nip in the air after losing their tresses for charity.

Tom, a regular at the Tree Hotel in Iffley, and renowned for his long hair, moustache and beard, agreed to lose it all for a good cause after fellow drinkers pledged to dig deep in a bid to smarten him up.

The sponsored shave didn't just stop with a tonsorial trim, however, as Tom even lost his eyebrows.

Cash raised from his shorn locks will be divided between Sir Michael Sobell House hospice at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford, and the Royal National LIfeboat Institution.

And at The Bull in Great Milton, Michael known affectionately as Chewie after the hairy Star Wars character Chewbacca agreed to have his head shaved as long as £1,000 was pledged to charity.

Fellow customers chipped in generously, donating £1,500 towards a play area for nursery children at the John Watson special school in Wheatley, Oxford.

Meanwhile, another pub customer is set to lose his legendary waist-length locks on Friday in aid of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.

Mike Cater, who drinks at The Chequers, in Charney Bassett, near Wantage, has supported cancer charities for many years, but since the death of his girlfriend ten months ago from a brain tumour, he has pledged his support to the ICRF.

His sponsored chop has already attracted support to the tune of more than £1,000, with further donations promised.
