West Witney Ladies 2nd had victory snatched from their grasp when Banbury scored a deserved goal with just a few minutes to go in their Trysports League Division 1 game, which ended 1-1.
Witney went in front after the interval from a short corner. Left midfielder Zazi Barrell, playing her first full game after returning from injury, followed in to give the Banbury goalkeeper no chance.
However, this spurred on the Banbury team, under the captaincy of Ann Glover.
Witney defended a succession of short corners well, with Ros Plowright, blocking all Banbury first-time shots.
But from the last one of the match, a rebounded shot was followed in, bobbling over a defender's stick on the line.
Oxford Hawks were beaten 1-0 in their top-of-the-table clash with Newbury.
Newbury's goal came early into the second half and although Hawks again pressed strongly, they were unable to convert pressure into a goal.
Excellent teamwork and superb passing gave Abingdon Ladies their best win of the season, a 7-1 victory over City of Oxford 2nd in Division 2.
Leading only 2-1 at half time, their perseverence in the bad weather paid off in the second half. Goals came from Nicki Lockhart, Cheryl Grime, Kirsten Horn, Abbey Fletcher (2) and Vicki Baxter (2).
In Division 3, Pilgrims thrashed Hungerford 8-1 in the heavy rain. A brace of goals from defender Jenny Maughan, left wing Lynn Fathers and right wing Alice Waite put them on the road to victory.
Further scores from centre forward Laura Dean and Sue Hoyle secured the win.
**Oxon Under 15 girls were unlucky to come away from Cranford on Sunday without any points. Despite playing some good hockey, they lost 2-1 to Sussex and 1-0 to Berkshire. Vikki Dawson (Headington School) scored their only goal.
