Table-topping Rover Oxford Ladies were pleased to come away with a point from a 2-2 draw away to second-placed Wimbledon in South Clubs' League Division 1.

A number of Rover penalty corners came to nothing which gave Wimbledon heart and, with two minutes of the first half remaining, Wimbledon took the lead when a free hit outside the D was converted.

The equaliser came seven minutes into the second half when Vicky Mankelow finished off Lorraine Furney's good work at the top of the D.

Rover then went to sleep and Wimbledon were allowed to dribble the ball along the baseline past two defenders and slip the ball past keeper Liz Say.

Rover never gave up and gained their reward three minutes from the end when Mankelow scored her second from close in.

With Tulse Hill losing, Rover remain top, one point clear of Wimbledon with a game in hand.

West Witney Ladies produced a hard-working 1-0 win against Southampton.

Witney had to reorganise before the start with Nic Heffernan sustaining an injury in the warm-up. And they started slowly with their keeper Linda Billington having to make some vital stops.

Witney took the lead when they were awarded a short corner after Sally Jeanes's shot on goal hit a defender's foot. Jeanes's pass was knocked in by Wendy Birkett.

Just before half-time, Sarah Taylor's shot from the top of the D was stopped on the line by a defender, and Witney were awarded a penalty flick. But Jeanes's shot rebounded off the inside of a post.

Witney controlled the second half, with excellent work in midfield by Louisa Stack, while outstanding defending from Birkett and Jackie Phillips meant Southampton couldn't get back.

**ROVER Oxford and West Witney have both been handed home draws in the third round of the EWHA Women's Trophy on December 3. Rover will play Sunbury while West Witney take on Camberley.
