Defending champions Railway D got the 74th Morrells ODDA Winter League under way with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Shelley Arms C.

Shelley took the opening game when Glyn Jones (180) beat Ollie Varney, but Railway stormed back through Ron Parker, Malcolm Elliott, Brian Lemke and Preedy to go 4-1 up.

Hall (180) beat Bob Pollard to reduce the arrears, but Railway held on despite Shelley's 2-1 pairs victory.

Quarry Gate A trailed 2-0 at home to Littlemore British Legion after Alan Eckert (180) and Darrell Ingram both won.

The Quarry men then staged a powerful recovery as Joe Palmer, Mark Batsford, Kit Young and Steve Foster made it 4-2 which they increased to 7-2 with a 3-0 pairs success.

Young was in sparkling form, winning one leg in 13 darts 140, 123, 140, 58 and double 20.

Marsh Harrier won 6-3 away to Section 3 rivals Kings Arms Kidlington thanks to singles wins from Johnston, Reveley, Watson and Sawyer plus a pairs 2-1 victory.
