Oxford Utd Res 1, Peterborough Res 0 - match report
Chris Hackett's goal after 26 minutes helped Oxford United Res to their fifth win in a row in a disappointing sub-standard Avon Insurance Football Combination game at the Manor last night.
With the exception of Simon Vickers, a Canadian triallist who replaced Jamie Cook 17 minutes from the end, every Oxford player has appeared in the first team and they responded with their worst performance of the season.
Oxford never found an answer to Peterborough's 4-3-2-1 formation and were outplayed in midfield which is where manager David Kemp has to find a replacement for cup-tied Keith Andrews for Saturday's FA Cup first round encounter at Macclesfield.
Dean Whitehead passed the ball backwards more often than forward, Paul Powell seldom ventured into the visitors' half and Simon Weatherstone, apart from one good attempt in the first half, was never in the game.
It was all too much for Kemp, who left midway through the second half.
Hackett was the only player to threaten. He missed badly from a good position after 22 minutes, but four minutes later made amends with a vicious drive past keeper Dan Connor.
