A scheme, aimed at providing a range of inventive activities for pensioners, has been acclaimed by a county councillor who helped set it up.
The continuing success of the two-year project, boosted by the Better Government for Older People initiative in Oxfordshire, was recently celebrated at County Hall. Older people took part in a variety of events, from line dancing to poetry reading, and "silver surfing" of the Internet to home safety.
The day celebrated both older people's creativity, as well as the success of the scheme, which has seen 35 practical projects set up in partnership with more than 60 partner organisations.
These have included advisory panels at local and county level so that the voices of older people can be heard when public policies are made.
David Buckle, chairman of the BGOP steering group, told the County Hall gathering: "This has been a landmark initiative. I believe we have started something that will have lasting results.
"We have made progress in many ways on changing the culture and attitudes to older people."
