Brewers WH Brakspear & Sons scooped first and second prizes in the UK's first organic beer contest.
First prize in the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Organic Beer Competition 2000 was Brakspear Live Organic, created by Peter Scholey, the Henley brewery's head brewer and director of production.
The first prize in this competition, which was sponsored by Safeway, includes a full listing with the supermarket chain, and Brakspear Live Organic in 500ml bottles will be available through Safeway stores nationally.
Second prize winner was Brakspear Ted & Bens Organic cask ale. Ted & Bens, a traditional English bitter, is moderately bitter in flavour and golden amber in colour.
It was launched in Spring 2000 as part of Brakspear's Brewers Selection 2000 programme. Brakspear said it would be bringing Ted & Bens back in March.
