Two men attacked a man in his home, knocking out two teeth and injuring an eye after a row over a mobile phone ringing.

Sean Butcher, 28, of Stonesfield, Didcot, and Lee Redhead, 24, of Queensway, admitted assaulting Robert Lightfoot, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Gill Hurworth, prosecuting, said they knocked on the door of Linda Hoskins, the partner of Mr Lightfoot, on April 9, and without warning began punching him in the face and body.

Mr Lightfoot fell to the floor and was kicked. Ms Hurworth said they then left without saying anything.

She said Mr Lightfoot suffered an injury to his left eye which was treated at the Oxford Eye Hospital, two teeth were knocked out, his lower denture was broken and he was covered in bruises.

When arrested, both men denied being involved in the incident.

Gerald Bermingham, defending Butcher, said he was a drug addict and invited the judge, Mr Justice Astill, to make Butcher pay for what he had done. Antoinette Mackenson, defending Redhead, handed in references.

The judge said: "This was a completely cowardly attack on someone in their own home."

He ordered each of them to pay 500 to Mr Lightfoot and to do 80 hours community service.
