Oxford Hawks Ladies defeated Wycombe Rye 2-1 in a closely-fought Trysports Three Counties League Division 1 encounter.

In wet and windy conditions, the home team took the early initiative with Kelly Aldridge and Kathryn Spencer breaking quickly down the right to provide good scoring opportunities.

Yunley Oakley went close to scoring after a cross from the right was met with a first-time strike at goal, but the keeper make a reaction save.

Wycombe broke the deadlock early in the second half.

A break down the wing saw a Wycombe player beat two defenders before using her reverse stick to slot the ball past the advancing Hawks keeper.

This only spurred Hawks into lifting their game and they soon drew level from a penalty corner play.

The initial shot was saved by the keeper, but Katie Merrick was first to the rebound and a square pass found the unmarked Aldridge who scored.

Hawks began to pile on the pressure and their relentless work paid off with the winning goal coming five minutes from time.

Again it was a penalty corner, and this time Spencer picked up the rebound to score.

City of Oxford went down 2-1 at home to Phoenix-Ranelagh, who took the lead just before half-time in spite of excellent defending from Amy Tuckwell.

City fought back to level through a short-corner strike from Amanda Pearce Higgins. Controversially, Phoenix were awarded a penalty stroke which was superbly saved by keeper Heather Burrage.

But Phoenix continued to apply the pressure and were rewarded with a goal from a short corner move.

Rover Cowley 2nd went down 2-1 at home to Amersham in Division 2.

Amersham took the lead in the fourth minute and added a second from a penalty corner midway through the second half. Ali Dowler scored Rover's consolation late in the game.

Olivia King struck a brace and Lucy Smales and Julia Ferguson one each as Abingdon 2nd beat Hawks 3rd 4-3 in Division 4.

Wychwood Ladies stay second in Division 5 after their 3-1 win over Chalfont St Peter 2nd. Catherine Forteath, Carmen Hillier and Anne Dobson got the goals.
