Oxford City Stars lost their English Cup tie 8-3 at Birmingham Rockets on Saturday but bounced back in style with a 15-2 English National League win at Slough Harrier Hawks the following day, writes COLIN KIRBY.
Stars failed to shine in a dimly-lit Birmingham rink, going 4-0 behind in the first period and never recovering despite an improved performance.
Glen West replied in the second period and Derek Flint and Chris West found the target to restore some pride, but it was too little, too late.
Stars rallied for their trip to Slough and went goal crazy, with Glen West's shot through the home netminder's legs starting the spree.
A Derek Flint rebound, Glen West's second and a short-handed Chris West strike made it 4-0.
The home coach stormed out on his team during the first break, leaving them in turmoil and Stars were happy to capitalise, grabbing another five goals to Slough's lone score in the second quarter.
Chris Roberts took over in Stars goal in the third period and recorded a shut-out as the whole squad got a piece of the action, with Josh Grocutt and Marlon Williams both grabbing their chance.
Glen West finished with six goals, Flint three, Darren Elliott two and there were singles for Trevor Joseph, Chris West, Josh Grocutt and Paul Donohoe.
Stars Under 19s won 10-2 at Bristol, Michael Bennett leading the way with three goals.
