The latest improvement scheme in a town centre is getting a £150,000 grant.

The cash will be spend on revamping the area between Market House, North Street and Buttermarket.

Smooth York stone paving will go down in the main pedestrian areas, with other stone for the central area, pavements will be wider and the crossing over North Street will be raised.

It will make access easier to the Citizens' Advice Bureau, the tourist information centre and the public lavatories.

Cycle racks, litter bins, new seating and a community notice board will also be provided.

The £175,000 scheme follows other town centre schemes in Pump Lane and round the town hall.

Thame Town council will pay for the majority of the street furniture, replacement trees and enhanced lighting while Oxfordshire County Council is funding the raising of the pedestrian crossing and widening the footpath in North Street.

South Oxfordshire District Council's community trust fund has agreed to foot the rest of the bill 150,000, although the grant will have to be sanctioned by the full council.
