Witney Town manager Brian Hughes is looking to the club's proposed takeover to inject new life into the Eastern Division outfit, writes RUSSELL SMITH.

Shareholders are set to meet at Marriotts Stadium on Tuesday to vote on the offer for the football club from Bourne- mouth-based Mariziane Pub Holding Company.

Chairman Brian Constable is to recommend they accept the offer, and now Hughes has added his support to the takeover bid.

He said: "With a little bit of luck, these people will come in and breathe fresh life into the place."

Witney's manager has done remarkably well to steer his side into the top ten despite having his playing rescources stretched to the limit.

With injuries and unavailability taking effect, he was forced to call up Dave Cooper and Paul O'Hare from the Witney Academy side as Town went down 1-0 at Burnham, and he faces a similar scenario for tomorrow's trip to Langney Sports.

Indeed, today he wasn't in a position to name a squad.

Strikers Andy Keveran (medial knee ligaments) and Ian McSweeney (knee cartilage) face lengthy spells on the sidelines, while Mike Cook (groin and calf) and Kevin Willetts (groin) must pass fitness tests. In addition, Gary Murphy and Darren McCluskey are recovering from operations.

However, Jason Caffel, Terry Morrisey and Chris Murray should return after being unavailable in midweek.

Banbury United, who have seen their last two home games washed out by rain, will be hoping for better luck when they visit Histon in the Eastern Division.

Player-manager Kevin Brock said: "The good thing about it is that it has given our injured players time to recover."
