Chris Hackett says it's a dream come true to be playing for the team he grew up watching as a kid.
The 17-year-old burst on to the scene in dramatic fashion on Saturday, scoring a dazzling third goal and being named man-of-the-match.
Dream come true: Chris relaxes at his Sandford-on-Thames homeHis display has prompted United's management team to offer him a five-year contact, even though he still has two years to run on his present deal.
"I really enjoyed my home debut, but the most important thing was that the team won," said a modest Hackett.
"I grew up watching Oxford, and it's a dream come true to play for my local team, and to score on my home debut was great.
"I was pleased to get the goal. I just picked the ball up inside my own half and ran. There was only one man in my way and I just went past him and thought I'd try my luck - and it went in.
Hackett, who is the county sprint champion, said it is now up to him to prove himself on a regular basis.
"The management have put faith in me and I've got to repay that," he added.
"I don't expect to be playing every match because I'm still young, but when I do, I'll just do the best I can.
"I don't want to talk about contracts because all I'm interested in doing is playing football and giving my best for Oxford United. It's a dream to be playing, and hopefully now we can build on Saturday and get some results to move us off the bottom."
