Cherry Red Records Hellenic League - Yate Tn 6, Abingdon Utd 0.
Abingdon crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season at Yate and their fourth reverse in a row.
All six goals came in a second-half collapse after they had lost Wayne Morton for two yellow cards. Mark O'Hara was also sent off at the final whistle for swearing.
The Town pitch was very boggy and cut up quickly, which suited Yate's long ball style, whereas Abingdon's short passing game literally got stuck in the mud.
United were unlucky when Kai Ridley's shot beat keeper Scannell and was cleared off the line by Neal, but chances were at a premium and Abingdon put themselves under pressure by giving the ball away too much.
Carl Henry went close five minutes from the break when his free kick skimmed the bar, but Abingdon were reduced to ten men just before half-time when Wayne Morton brought down a home forward and was sent off for his second bookable offence.
Yate took advantage of their extra man after the break. Metheringham notched five of their goals, including one from the penalty spot, while Trotman got the other.
Metheringham could not believe his luck with his fifth goal, which looked clearly offside, causing uproar in the Abindon ranks. This culminated in O'Hara being sent off for abuse to an assistant as the final whistle went.
