Banbury earned their best win of the season in style by hitting five past Erith and Belvedere in Dr Martens Eastern Division on Saturday.
On a pitch that must be one of the finest in the league, Banbury were denied a blatant penalty in the 19th minute when George Redknap was bundled to the ground from behind as he was about to shoot.
But the visitors did not have to wait long before they opened the scoring three minutes later. A great move from the back ended with Steve Jenkins laying the ball into the path of Jon Corbett, who let fly from 25 yards with a left-foot shot which flew into the top corner of the net.
Erith looked lively throughout the first half and Banbury's defence had to work hard to keep them at bay, but the neutral observer would have been forgiven for thinking that the two teams were at the top end of the table instead of the bottom.
Banbury always looked the more likely to score and they increased their lead two minutes into the second half.
Matty Gooderick received the ball wide on the right and raced clear of the home defence before crossing for Jenkins to score his first goal of the season.
In the 52nd minute, Jenkins's bullet header was brilliantly saved by keeper Dean Lee.
Banbury got their third on the hour. The impressive Redknap forced his way through midfield and laid on a pass for Jenkins. When his shot was charged down, Jody McKay unleashed a powerful left-foot strike from the edge of the penalty area.
It was 4-0 in the 62nd minute as Banbury piled on the pressure. Gooderick attacked up the left and although his pass to Jenkins was cut out, he hit the rebound into the far corner of the net from an almost impossible angle.
Redknap saw his fierce drive deflected over the top by Gooderick, but Banbury were not to be denied and they made it 5-0 in the 66th minute.
Gooderick was brought down as he cut in from the left, and Jenkins made no mistake with the spot kick.
Banbury Utd: Tricker, Wallbridge, Redknap, Sullivan (Essex 81), Muckelberg, Fuller, Corbett, Phillips, Jenkins (Harrison 70), Gooderick, McKay. Sub: Brock (not used).
