A 29-year-old man repeatedly punched his friend because he believed he had slept with his girlfriend, a court heard.

Christian Trafford, of Cherwell Road, Berinsfield, was found guilty by a majority of ten to two at Oxford Crown Court yesterday of assaulting Paul Greenaway on June 5 last year.

He was acquitted of threatening to kill him.

Barnaby Evans, prosecuting, said Trafford went to his friend's house after hearing Mr Greenaway had slept with Kerry Lobb.

When Mr Greenaway answered the door Trafford aimed a headbutt at him at him but missed.

He accused Mr Greenaway of sleeping with his girlfriend, which was denied.

Trafford then punched him until Mr Greenaway fell on to the sofa, when he may have passed out.

While Mr Greenaway was lying on the sofa Trafford pulled out a ten-inch kitchen knife.

During a struggle Mr Greenaway was nicked behind the right ear.

Trafford denied carrying a knife and said Mr Greenaway headbutted him before a fight broke out.

The case has been adjourned for pre-sentence reports and Trafford was remanded in custody.
