Colleagues of a man found dead on a doorstep said they were shocked and distressed by his death.

Peter Sawyer, 20, of Ireton Close, Chalgrove, near Thame, was found by a delivery man on Saturday morning, half a mile from his home.

Police are treating the death as suspicious. Two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested in connection with the case but later released on police bail.

Former colleagues of Mr Sawyer at Chalgrove's Desking Systems, the office-furniture making company, paid tribute to him.

Speaking on behalf of all the staff, personnel officer Una Watt said: "He will be very much missed. He was a good, steady worker."

She added that Mr Sawyer, who joined the company as an assembler in 1999, was well liked.

"He was very well thought of here," she said. "He was one of our very best young people in the factory.

"Peter worked hard and consistently and never missed a day he just kept working and he will be much missed.

"His colleagues are very upset over this incident.

"We just hope there are some real answers to what is a very great mystery of how a boy like Peter came to be found as he was."

Mr Sawyer's father, Robert, said his son went out on Friday evening to meet a friend and have a couple of drinks.

He said he had no idea how his son came to be found where he was in Monument Road.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but further tests are required to establish the cause of death.
