A former Magdalen College student missing from his home town may have returned to Oxford.

Giles Morten Scupham, 37, of Hitchin, graduated from Oxford University in 1985 after studying English Language and Literature.

He was last seen at the Lister Hospital Hospital in Stevenage on January 21. He had been at the hospital overnight receiving treatment for an injury sustained in a fall, and rang his mother for a lift home when he was discharged at 9am.

But when she arrived he was nowhere to be seen and has not contacted his family since. A member of the hospital staff saw him in the hospital grounds at about 1.30pm.

Det Sgt Frank Parsons, of Hertfordshire Police, said Giles's family were very concerned.

He said: "It is possible that Giles still has friends in the Oxford area from his time at University and he may have returned to the city to seek them out.

"We are appealing for anyone who has seen Giles and has any information about his whereabouts to contact us as soon as possible."

When last seen, Giles was wearing a long padded jacket, dark navy jeans and yellow boots.

He is around 5ft 10in tall and has short brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen Giles or who has any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Det Sgt Parsons on 01426 425064.
