There's no age barrier in the sport of angling as two veterans proved by catching personal best trout from the Milestone Fishery, near Fairford.

Nobby Clark, from Oxford, aged 78, and Kennington's Ted Heath, 84, have been fishing companions for the last 18 years, and have been regular visitors to Milestone for the last four.

And they cracked it in style with two magnificent rainbows last week.

Nobby was first to catch, his fish weighing 16lb 2oz, which fell to a self-tied 'Nobby Nobbler'!

He then lent the fly to his pal, Ted, who promptly caught another of 14lb 4oz.

Four good perch helped Ron Hillier to victory in the final round of Kidlington AS's Green Road Social Club Winter League on the Oxford Canal at Kidlington.

Hillier, fishing for Kidlington A, totalled 5.4.0 and caught his quartet of perch on pole/worm.

Second was Steve Bartrum (North Oxford Tackle) with 4.2.0 of roach and perch on pole/caster, while Garry Pether (Dagmar) was third with 2.5.8 of gudgeon and ruffe on whip/bloodworm.

Teams on the day: 1= North Oxford Tackle, Dagmar 40pts; 3 Waltonians 35; 4 Fat Boys 31; 5 Kidlington A 27; 6 Top Wac 26; 7 Kidlington B 24; 8= Team Nobby, Zebco 17; 10 Kellys DNF.

Littlemore AS saw off Thame AC and the Royal Mail to move into the next round of the Angling Times Clubman Supercup over eight sections of the Oxford Canal at the 39 Steps.

They finished with 19T points to Thame's 16T and the Mail's ten.

Tony Sexton (Thame) took the individual honours with a fine net of bream, chub and perch caught on caster over chopped worm for 10.10.0.

Robin Hood (Royal Mail) and Dave Hamm (Thame) were second and third with 4.14.00 and 2.11.08 respectively, both nets boosted by pike.
