Witney Town manager Brian Hughes looks set to stay at Marriotts Stadium despite the club's new owners walking out, writes Russell Smith.
Hughes was banking on the takeover by Bournemouth-based Mariziane Pub Holding Company to provide the catalyst for a brighter future for the Eastern Division club.
But now they have quit the club after just ten weeks and former chairman Brian Constable has returned as chief executive, it has inevitably thrown question marks over Hughes's position.
He said: "Basically, I need to have a chat with Brian to see where we are going and that everything's okay.
"But I have no immediate worries. At the moment, I don't see anything changing.
"We have come a long way this season and I want to continue making progress."
Hughes has been boosted by the news that Roger Alder looks set to continue in his role as director of football.
Alder said: "I shall probably be staying with Brian (Constable) to help him through."
Mike Spearman, the former Swindon Town chairman, who has been working on sponsorship at Marriotts Stadium, is also set to continue in that role.
Alder added that the three-year deal that Mariziane had lined up for Hughes was still on the table under the new set-up.
Meanwhile, Town, who haven't played since beating Rothwell Town 2-1 at home on January 6, have a trip to Spalding United tomorrow.
However, manager Hughes, who can't remember a season like it, is beginning to despair as to when they will play again.
"I think we should just scrap the season and say see you again in August," he joked.
Banbury United boss Kevin Brock is hoping that last week's 5-0 win at Erith will be the start of something special.
"It was an excellent performance," he said. "But now we have to go and do it again, and we have to start winning at home.
"There is no reason why we can't win four or five in a row at home, but we have to start by getting three points against Histon tomorrow."
