Oxford University proved far too strong for Gosford Hill when the top two teams met in the fifth round of Division 1 of the Five Disciplines League.

University player Mike Palmer took the opening game 15-2 against Paul Casey, who excelled himself by striking back 15-13 for his side's only success of the match.

The University, who gave a debut to Susan Tipping, won 148-79 to take a commanding lead of 138 points from nearest rivals Gosford.

Wantage's Dave and Caz Boorman, Wendy Jones and Dave Soanes were too strong for Radley & Oxford, who fielded an incomplete team.

Their sole success was the win by Greenland's national champion Kleist over Soanes.

Hosts Demag hammered the final nail in depleted Abingdon A's coffin by winning 125-62 to lift themselves off the bottom for the first time.
