Families worried that their relatives' organs may have been retained at Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary may at last hear from the hospital now the postal strike is over.
NHS managers at the Oxford Hospital said that, although they had started sending letters to people outside Oxfordshire, 30 letters had been left in the out-tray because of industrial action at Royal Mail sorting offices around the county.
Co-ordinator Mary Durcan said the correspondence was in response to people who had made inquiries last week, after it was revealed that 4,400 brains had been retained at the Radcliffe Infirmary over the last 30 years.
She said it was likely that more letters would be held up by the strike as her team worked through 800 queries they had received on a special helpline in the last week .
Mrs Durcan said: "If relatives would prefer to pick up their letters, they can contact us on the helpline and we will be happy to make arrangements."
