OXFORD Stadium are laughing all the way to the bank after staging another highly-successful live Sky TV greyhound meeting.

The William Hill Trafalgar Cup final on Tuesday saw attendances climb a third on last year, with the tote alone taking 20,000.

The big-race sponsors backed the meeting to the tune of 10,000, and Oxford also receive a sum from Sky.

On top of that, the restaurant served over 300 customers, again well up on last year.

One of the most pleasing aspects was the enthusiasm shown by the Sky staff, who produced what they felt was one of their bests shows.

Mind you, that had the material in top class dogs and leading personalities like Vinnie Jones and Dennis Wise.

The pair booked a table for 30, and judging by the way Sky's top brass were talking, we could well see more live meetings from Oxford.

The heroine of the night was, of course, Greenacre Belle, and now her target could be the Derby.

However, before that she could take in the Puppy supporting open on the night of the Springbok final at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Trainer Ray Peacock said: "It was a great effort from her at Oxford, because Handsome Reward ran a blinder, yet she held him off comfortably." Elsewhere on the card, many shrewd punters will have taken note of Angie Kibble's Another Scare who went faster than the Trafalgar Cup winner when landing the Sports Radio Trophy.

And the night finished in style when Bozy Blue Blaze broke Cygnet Man's 12-year-old track record for the 645m hurdle course, posting 40.94, two spots inside the old mark.

Oxford's next big race is the Arthur Young on Course Pall Mall, worth 7,500 to the winner, which takes place next month.

The competition for 48 greyhounds begins with the heats on March 13 the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival and hopes are high that a few racegoers will be attracted during the evening.

The final is on Sunday, March 25 and for the occasion a special menu at 25 per head will be on offer.

Sponsors are required for the supporting open races and Oxford's management are offering a special 500 deal to cover a champagne dinner for four, the title of a race, the trophy presentation and a photograph of the occasion.

There will also be ten tickets for guests. Contact is Mick Wheble on 01865 778222.

The next open races are scheduled for February 20 over all distances.
