OXFORD United striker Andy Scott is eager to get off the mark for his new club against Wycombe Wanderers in today's Division 2 derby at the Manor Ground after experiencing his leanest spell of the season!
Scott hit 15 goals for Brentford, including 13 in the League, before United captured him for 100,000 last month.
After moving from the mid-table Bees to bottom-of-the-table Oxford, he probably thought it would be harder to keep finding the net.
But this is the first time this season he has endured a run of four games without a goal.
Scott said: "You're always looking to get off the mark when you join a new club, but I've not had that many chances.
"Against Walsall, I had one good chance but there haven't been many others I can think of."
Scott added: "Naturally, I'm looking to get back in the run of scoring, but I don't feel any less sharp now than when they seemed to be going in every game." Scott, who began the season playing at left back before switching to the left side of attack, had an amazing run of eight goals in seven games in October and early November.
He also hit two goals in the Worthington Cup tie against Bristol City but missed the tie against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in the following round.
The last month, though, has been one of his most frustrating, with two matches postponed because of the weather.
"It's been a stop-start sort of month and we've not really got into a rhythm.
"We had problems at the back and the most important thing has been to shore that up.
"After the Peterborough game, we wanted to come back and play the following Saturday to show everyone we weren't as bad as that, but we were stopped in our tracks.
"With so much rain, the training ground is really heavy and we've been struggling to find decent surfaces to play on. But it's the same for everybody . . . I've spoken to guys at other clubs and it's just the same for them."
Weather permitting, United now have four games in 15 days with Bury (a), Stoke (h) and Millwall (h) following today's clash with Wycombe, and if a miracle escape is to be achieved, they must win at least three of those four.
Said Scott: "We need to get a run going, but it's been hard without the rhythm of regular matches. I still feel that if I get chances, I'll get goals."
