One of Britain's leading jazz pianist will be performing in Oxford on Thursday, February 15. Jonathan Gee will be playing at The Spin, over The Wheatsheaf pub, in High Street.
Jonathan, from London, has worked with jazz performers including Joe Lovano, Benny Golson, Art Farmer and Claire Martin.
For tonight's gig Jonathan will be teaming up with Spin regulars drummer Mark Doffman, guitarist Pete Oxley, and bass player Rafa Mizraki.
Every Thursday The Spin welcomes jazz performers from all over the country.
Mark, who helps run The Spin, says: "Every few years there is talk about the resurgence of jazz but what people don't realise is that interest never really died.
"A lot of people listen to jazz but it does not have the attention that art such as opera and classical music are given."
Mark adds The Spin is unusual because more than half of the jazz club's regular audience is under the age of 25.
"We run a club that does not just attract diehard jazzers.
"People have an idea that jazz performers play to a few old guys in a pub but that's not the case. We have lots of young people and students who come along and there is a really good atmosphere at The Spin," he says.
Doors open at 8.15pm, the gig starts at 9pm. Admission costs 4, or 2.50 for concessions.
