Oxfordshire look on course to claim the Division 1B title in the Inter-Counties Championship after a 9-6 win over Berkshire.

Julie Bradbury, Sally Wills, Mike Palmer and Daryl Coombes took all four opening singles to lay the foundation for a fine victory.

Wills had to dig deep, eventually coming through 10-13, 11-7, 11-9.

Oxon then picked up three women's and one men's doubles to take a winning 8-4 lead into the mixed.

Bradbury and Erica Green won two, Wills and Emma Martin one, and Dave Boorman and Nick Raven also one.

With the pressure off, Oxon took just one mixed, Palmer partnering Bradbury to a comfortable 15-4, 15-5 win.

Although Berkshire lead the table by one point with one game left to play, Oxon have one match in hand and their rubber average is superior.

Berkshire have 62 rubbers for and 43 against, while Oxfordshire have a rubber count of 64-26.

Oxfordshire 2nd gave a powerhouse performance to beat Cornwall 13-2 in their Division 3C tie at Headington School.

The scoreline read 2-2 at the close of the singles, but Oxon won everything else to finish easy victors.

Undefeated were Liz Hurns, Caz Boorman, Elaine Madle, Claire Tait, Paul Casey, Dave Soanes and Chris Gibbins.

Oxfordshire Over 50s completed their programme in the Midlands Section with a 7-5 win over previously unbeaten Warwickshire.

*Wantage ran out 7-2 winners against Abingdon A in Mixed Division 1 of the Oxford & District League.

Thame sent only two pairs to Oxford Brookes in Men's Division 2 but came away 5-4 winners.

David Hart and Jeremy Carder won three, while Andy Jones and Ian Durham took two.

Durham also appeared for Thame B in their Men's Division 4 match with North Abingdon B, but he was less successful as hosts Thame lost 8-1.

*Evenlode A enjoyed an 8-1 win over National Power A in Division 1 of the Wallingford & District League.

The Abingdon side's unbeaten pairs were Ian Clewley and Alison Kirton and third pair Steve Rowland and Beryl Richardson.

In Division 2, Berinsfield beat Eynsham 6-3.
