Mystery surrounds the death of a student found hanged at his home in Bournemouth.

Robert Edwards, 23, was a former pupil of Lord Williams's School, Thame, and was an Oxford Mail delivery boy for many years.

Robert went on to university in Bournemouth where he gained a degree in media and computer work and was studying for a doctorate.

His mother, Joy Edwards, said at the family home in Beech Road, Thame: "We just do not understand. He had lots of friends, he was well balanced, happy with himself and with his work and everyone liked him. We have had lovely letters from the people at university praising him.

"We just cannot begin to imagine what happened to him."

His father, Rhyddian, was in Bournemouth yesterday talking to police and the university to try and find out if there had been any indications in his behaviour. He could find nothing.

Jan Ruddock, head of creative arts at Lord Williams's, said: "We will remember him especially for his sense of humour and immense kindness."

The funeral service will be on Wednesday, at Oxford Crematorium, at 2pm.

An inquest will be held in Bournemouth at a later date.
